Andy and I got to keep Miss Madelyn yesterday. As most of you know, I have a very special place in my heart for Madelyn. She is precious, and fun, and a joy to be around. I was quite excited to get to spend the day with her.
We arrived at 8:00 a.m., and Madelyn was very excited to see Cooper. (She really likes him alot.)
After Jaime and Mike left for their meeting (8:15 a.m.), we played ball with Cooper and had a tea party. Next, we had breakfast (cereal) and read a few books. Then, it was time for bubbles. (She LOVES bubbles. It's a word repeated over and over - "Bubbles." "Bubbles." "More bubbles.") By the time we came inside after "bubbles," I thought that it must be about noon. It was 10:35 a.m. Oh, boy!
Snack time (Goldfish crackers, with extra calcium added, of course.) More tea party. An Elmo DVD. More ball with Cooper. Singing songs ("Old Macdonald," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Wheels on the Bus"). Even more tea party.
By 12:30 p.m., Madelyn was pretty well spent and ready for a nap. I put her down, and then Andy went to get the two of us lunch from Subway. We ate, and then rested up for the second half of our day.
Nap/rest time ended around 2:50 p.m. Andy made macaroni and cheese (specially requested by Miss M), and I dressed Madelyn in her finest swimwear - lots of sunscreen, too - for our trip to the pool. The mac and cheese was a hit (she ate a whole plate, and then held it up and said, "More.")
After Andy and I donned our pool attire, we all got in the SUV and made a quick stop by our house to drop off Cooper and pick up Andy's pool pass, beach towels, and a ponytail holder for me. Then, we were off to our neighborhood's most kid-friendly pool, featuring beach entry with water jets, a large Starburst fountain, and a huge umbrella.
We spent about 75 minutes at the pool. I tell you - it's tough predicting a two-year-old's next move. Will she run this way or that way? (She isn't SUPPOSED to run at all but, you know, it's hard to resist.) Will that little boy throw his ball and hit her? Does she need her swim diaper changed?
When the "adult time" whistle blew, it was snack time - for all the kids, it seemed. (It was like Pavlov's dogs with the lifeguard's whistle signaling parents to pull out the Ziploc bags of crackers, cereal, etc.). We enjoyed water and crackers (and maybe some Sierra Mist for me and Andy - no, it wasn't spiked), and then packed up our things. We arrived back at Mike and Jaime's house around 5:15 p.m. Mike arrived with Jaime's younger sister, Sarah (14), a few minutes later. She was handling the "night shift."
Andy and I said our goodbyes and then came home to lay comatose on separate couches. I was tuckered out! After recovering a bit, we showered and picked up Kim. We had dinner at Rio (my second Mexican experience since returning from Europe - yum!). Then, Andy and I stopped by our friends Lauren and Nathan's house. We hung out for a little over an hour, and then came home and went to bed - and slept like logs.
It was a great Saturday for me. I enjoyed all the quality time with Madelyn during the day, and with good friends during the evening. Above are a few pictures of Madelyn. (When you ask her to say, "cheese," she does, but that's the face she ends up making.) :-)
Props to all parents! It's a tough job. Whew!
